The Arason invariant of
orthogonal involutions
Analogues of the classical discriminant and Clifford algebra
invariants of quadratic forms have been defined by Jacobson and Tits
for central simple algebras with orthogonal involutions, which may be
viewed as twisted forms of quadratic forms up to scalars. This talk
will discuss the possibility of defining an invariant of orthogonal
involutions with values in the Galois cohomology group of degree 3 with
Z/2-coefficients on the model of the Arason invariant of quadratic
