The official job advertisement has been posted by the personnel department on the university's webpage.

The Zukunftskolleg and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Konstanz offer a

Ph.D. Position

three-year limited term,
salary scale 13 TV-L/50%

in the DFG-funded research project Convexity in Real Algebraic Geometry led by Daniel Plaumann.
The project is concerned with current developments at the interface between algebraic geometry, convex geometry, and polynomial optimization, in particular regarding linear matrix inequalities and semidefinite programming.
The Ph.D. student will contribute through their work to the success of the research project, with the opportunity to work towards a degree by the end of the funding period (three years).

Working Environment

The project is hosted at the Zukunftskolleg at the University of Konstanz. The Zukunftskolleg is an interdisciplinary research centre funded by the German Excellence Initiative with special focus on fostering junior researchers. It offers excellent research conditions in a lively atmosphere with young researchers from a wide range of disciplines. In addition, the project is part of the Research Group Real Algebraic Geometry in the Department of Mathematics, where several researchers are working on related mathematical questions.

Prerequisites

Application

The application should include a cover letter, an academic CV, a transcript of records, a copy of the master or diploma thesis and a letter of recommendation (ideally from the former supervisor), to be sent directly by the letter writer.

Important note: Students in the final stages of their studies who do not yet hold a degree may apply anyway and should provide instead of the thesis an excerpt, draft, summary, or similar.
