Description
In this cycle of seminars students will deliver a seminar about the results contained in their bachelor/master thesis. The seminars will be in videoconference on Cisco Webex Meetings (participants will receive an invitation email some days before each seminar).

Credits
3 ECTS

Target group
The seminar is primarily aimed at bachelor and master students in Mathematics, but is also suitable for students of Lehramt.

  • June 3rd: A constructive proof of the Helton-Vinnikov theorem (Sarah-Tanja Hess). Abstract - Handout
  • June 10th: A proof that every convex quarternary quartic form is a sum of squares (Moritz Schick). Abstract - Handout
  • July 1st: Transferability results for topological properties of ordered groups and fields (Moritz Link). Abstract
  • July 8th: Independence in set theory (Jakob Everling). Abstract - Handout

  • Instructions
    Each participant will:
  • submit to the organizers a title and abstract by noon of the Wednesday before her/his seminar
  • have 1 hour 15 minutes at her/his disposal for delivering her/his seminar (plus 15 additional minutes for questions)
  • produce a visual support for her/his presentation to be shared with the audience during the video-conference,
    e.g. slides, notes on a tablet, handout in digital form.
  • submit to the organizers the visual support (in pdf) used during your presentation.
    This will be counted as your seminar handout and is an essential part of your final evaluation.

  • Weekly deadlines
  • Wednesday before your seminar: submission of title and abstract by noon to the organizers
  • Wednesday of your seminar: submission of your handout in pdf to the organizers
